Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Allows Secure Connection from Anywhere. Cisco, the pioneer in router technology, created the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client to allow customers to create a VPN, or virtual private network. These networks permit two computers to connect over the Internet remotely using a secure connection that keeps information shared between the two computers secure and private. With today’s global economy, companies have a pressing need to share confidential information remotely. A VPN system allows them to do that seamlessly, as if they were connected to each other by a wire, only using the wireless connectivity of the Internet to do so.

In a VPN, the computers (or other devices enabled on the network) connect using a client on one computer and a VPN server on the second computer. It uses dedicated connections, traffic encryptions, and protocols for virtual tunneling to allow the secure connection to take place.

With the secure connection established, secure information can be exchanged, even on the Internet, by means of security applications, such as encryption and other solutions. With this technology, even on the very public Internet, the information can get through without prying eyes taking a look.

In this way, the devices can be regulated by the management and by the security policies of the company while their operators enjoy the benefits of remote connectivity only available on the Internet.

The application can have widespread use. In addition to maintaining the secrecy of shared corporate information, the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client can be used to transmit sensitive medical information between doctors, allowing physicians in even remote locations to treat patients in rural or otherwise underserved areas.

Furthermore, the Cisco Anyconnect allows company employees to access their company’s private Intranet network. This permits them to get real-time information from their employer even while traveling. It also permits them to get around any censorship issues in countries in which they are traveling, keeping their identity and location secure.

The product was discontinued in 2011. Product updates were ended in July 2012, and support was no longer provided after 2014. The company suggests that customers switch to a newer product, the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. For those who do not want to switch, however, the Cisco AnyConnect VPN licenses are still available from aftermarket retailers such as Amazon.com.
